Health Rhythms - Music
and Wellness
Todd Balcom was Board
Certified in Music Therapy in 1994 following a clinical internship
at Griffin Memorial State Psychiatric Hospital. He received
South-
western Oklahoma State University’s
Distinguished Music Therapy Alumni Award in 2006. Todd is
a music therapist, drum circle facilitator, wellness educator,
professional musician and an endorsed facilitator by Remo
Music
Co., recognized nationally as a leader of evidence-based
music health and wellness programs. Todd has become well-known
throughout
the state leading wellness
drumming circles for cancer survivors and caregivers at survivorship
events.

Survivorship: Communicating
with Health Care Providers
Toni Hart has been involved with the Oklahoma Comprehensive
Cancer Network since 2003 and serves as the chair for the Quality
of Life committee. She manages the cancer survivorship education
program in rural Oklahoma, funded by the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Toni was first affected by cancer when a very dear friend was
diagnosed with lung cancer. This diagnosis came on the heels
of writing the LAF grant. Her passion for and dedication to
helping cancer survivors navigate their own healthcare is not
a job, it is a mission.

Stress Management
Claudia Tatum, RT, RN, OCN, has been in oncology
since 1976. She began her career as a Radiation Therapist and
later became
a
Radiation Oncology Nurse.
Currently, she works as a Hematology
Oncology Consultant with Celgene
Corporation. Her experience in oncology has awarded her the
gift of gratitude for each day and a mission to assist others
with stress
management by utilizing massage,
aromatherapy, imagery and positive self talk. |
What is it?
The wellness retreat is a unique event offering opportunities for personal
growth through activities tailored to meet the needs of adults experiencing
cancer and their support persons. The annual retreat provides:
- Relaxation
- Self-growth
- Education
methods for learning to deal with day-to-day challenges
- A chance to
share and network with other people whose lives have been affected
by cancer
All activities are offered in the supportive environment of beautiful St.
Crispin's Episcopal Conference Center.
Who can attend?
The retreat is designed for adults with any form of cancer. A spouse, adult friend,
or an adult family member is welcome.
What do I bring?
Participants should bring comfortable clothing, and if you like to explore,
bring walking shoes. The weather couldbe cool this time of year, so don't forget
a jacket.

From Oklahoma City:- Take I-40 to exit 200 and exit
right (south) on Highway 99
- Travel about 10 miles south to Highway 9 at Seminole, then turn left (east)
- Go about 7 1/2 miles, and the Conference Center entrance will be on the
right (south) side of the road
From Tulsa:
- Take the HE Bailey Turnpike (I-44) west to the Highway 99 exit near Stroud
- Travel south to Highway 9 at Seminole, then turn left (east)

What is the cost?
The conference is $15 a person and includes a continental breakfast,
lunch, snack, T-shirt and activity materials.
What Are the Accomodations?
St. Crispin's Episcopal Conference Center is located on 400 Acres in the rolling,
oak-covered hills of Seminole County within easy driving distance of Oklahoma
City and Tulsa. Quiet trails and clear lakes make the conference center a place
where re-creation becomes a natural part of the St. Crispin's experience. St.
Crispin's offers fully modern retreat and conference facilities.
